Saint Kitts and Nevis is a dual-island nation situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. It’s known for cloud-shrouded mountains and beaches. Many of its former sugar plantations are now inns or atmospheric ruins. The larger of the 2 islands, Saint Kitts, is dominated by the dormant Mount Liamuiga volcano, home to a crater lake, green vervet monkeys, and a rainforest crisscrossed with hiking trails. The smallest sovereign state in the Americas, the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis unites the “sister” islands of St. Kitts and Nevis, although both islands maintain certain independent regulations in a Federal system. Tourism, the leading economy of the islands, has been growing steadily bringing with it new hotel and resort developments. However like other small islands and Caribbean countries, St. Kitts and Nevis are highly exposed to external shocks and global economic cycles. Both islands have international airports and are connected by two ferry lines. The islands are naturally diverse, with extensive flora and fauna; it is estimated that St. Kitts & Nevis currently has a larger vervet monkey population than humans.
